Onalaska police were investigating break-ins at Lindy's Subs, Marshall's Salon Supply, Happy Joe's Pizza and Taco Bell, and attempted burglaries at Rocky Rococo's and Dairy Queen restaurants earlier this week.
WHAT'S NEW: Onalaska police Thursday arrested Marc Peck, 27, of La Crosse and Shawna Grassman, 19, of Onalaska.
WHAT'S NEXT: Peck is expected to face at least eight counts of burglary when he appears Wednesday in La Crosse County Circuit Court.

I'm not usually into trendy chains, but I heard that President Barack Obama sometimes eats at Five Guys in Washington, D.C., so I decided to give it a whirl.
It was 5 p.m. on a Saturday, and the line went past the glass-door entrance and down the block.
A diverse crowd of patrons eagerly waited to satisfy their palates.

Mike Locke wasn't looking to sell his restaurant.
The owner and founder of the locally favorite Hot Dog Hut had grown the business from the ground up, serving thousands of people through the years, from U.S. presidents to Little League baseball players.
He had entertained a proposal to sell the business once before, but when that plan fell through, he dismissed the idea, thinking he would keep working at the restaurant he had started some 33 years ago.

To the Council of Smaller Enterprises and Lakeland Community College, for opening the COSE Business Space at the Kirtland-based college.
Based in Room E-117 at Lakeland, this site offers a place for businesspeople to get some work done after hours of traveling around town to appointments.
Or it could be used by a home-based business owner needing a place to meet clients for a short while.

A good list overall, but plenty to quibble with.
Missing entirely are Aurora (which is far and away the best new Italian restaurant in the neighborhood), Zenkichi and Bozu (all of which were flagged by readers).
